Dave Stratton

My name is Dave Stratton.  Admittedly, I won't be able to vote for Brookings County Sheriff as I am not a resident.  Brookings is however "Home".  I grew up in Brookings, have family and friends there and keep a close eye on everything Brookings from my home in Rapid City.  I care about Brookings and want the best for my hometown.  

I began my law enforcement career in Brookings as a dispatcher for Brookings PD in 1973.  I moved to the sworn ranks with the University Police Department at SDSU in 1975.  Ultimately, my chosen career field led me to Rapid City and the Rapid City Police Department.  I was a Command Level Officer when I retired.  My purpose today is to write supporting Assistant Sheriff Dave Biteler as he seeks to be your next Sheriff.

The law enforcement community is a tight knit group of individuals who have chosen a life of service supporting their communities.  Dave's military career coupled with his service as a first responder is remarkable. His life exemplifies his dedication to service.  To a person, everyone I know serving their community as first responders speaks highly of his dedication, level headed approach to service and life and love for his family and friends.  

Family support is essential for those who undertake the honor of serving their community.  Their family is close knit and supportive of each other.  Dave's wife Becky has served Brookings as an officer.  I know her well and admire her demeanor and support for the law enforcement community and her husband.  She knows the ups and downs we encounter on a regular basis.  Her support will be invaluable as he undertakes this next chapter in his career.

Just last year, Sheriff Stanwick promoted Dave to the Assistant Sheriff position.  Dave is Sheriff Stanwick's  second in command.  That wisdom and foresight should not be ignored as you consider your next Sheriff.
